PLAYA TRONCONES, MEXICO
La Puesta del Sol is a friendly and relaxed beachfront guest inn offering four comfortable suites and rooms. We are located at Playa Troncones near the town of Zihuatanejo and the resort destination Ixtapa on the Costa Grande of the state of Guerrero in Mexico. Zihuatanejo is serviced by an International Airport (ZIH) with daily flights.
Because we are right on the beach guests enjoy fantastic sunsets (hence our name) as well as the sights and sounds of the vast blue Pacific Ocean. Dolphins and pelicans are a common sight, and depending on the time of year guests may also see whales passing by and sea turtles laying their eggs in the sandy beach.
The coastal village of Troncones is a nature-lovers' paradise where time seems to stand still and the modern world loses significance. Troncones is a world reknowned surf destination with many excellent breaks in town and many more just a short distance away.

La Puesta del Sol is located in the Mexican state of Guerrero. We are 20 minutes north of Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, and 35 minutes from the International Airport (ZIH). If you are driving from the airport, follow MX 200 north, through Zihuatanejo. Leaving Zihua, bear to the right on MX 200, following signs for Lazaro Cardenas and Morelia. After another 15 to 20 minutes of rural driving (about 25 kilometers) watch for signage for Troncones . The highway signs indicate to go right on a side road so you are out of traffic and then cross the highway. You will pass a PEMEX gas station, then a quick, well marked right onto the road to Troncones. Follow the road down to town. When you reach the ocean, and a T junction, take a left and La Puesta del Sol is about 1/2 kilometer on the right (beach side).
IN TRONCONES
FROM THE AIRPORT
Troncones is a rural fishing village of about 600 people. We are located about 20 minutes north of the resort area of Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and serviced by the International Airport of the same name (ZIH). Troncones lies on the west coast of Mexico and we boast miles of golden sand beach and the beautiful Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains at our back. We have a rural and quiet atmosphere, removed from the hustle and noise of the larger Mexican Resort towns. Troncones is also world renowned as a surf destination, with many breaks in town and many more a short drive away, we have something for everyone, beginners to experts. Not a surfer but want to learn, we have several qualified surf instructors in town, as well multiple options for board rentals.
We have all the conveniences you may need, from vendors of fresh fish, chicken and meats as well as fruits and vegetables to a surprisingly diverse array of restaurants. There is a rural clinic and dentist for emergencies. We have several small stores that have a nice selection of staples as well as beer, wine and other liquors. Fresh tortillas are made and sold every morning and arrangements can be made to have them delivered right to the house. People are overall warm and open and the town has a great "laidback" vibe. There are often local fiestas and weddings in which everyone on the beach is invited. Needless to say....it's a friendly town.
Wake up to the sound of the ocean. Blue sky all around you, save the far off clouds which often crown the Sierra Madre Mountains to the east. The glassy morning Pacific Ocean sparkles in the golden sunlight. Take a walk on the fresh, tide swept sand and watch the pelicans dive behind the breaking waves. Scan the horizon for the telltale water spouts of whales passing by.
Sip your morning coffee and enjoy a little breakfast at one of the nearby restaurants while planning just what adventure you'll experience today. A horseback ride through the jungle? Or a walk up the beach to check out the tide pools? Then lunch alfresco on fresh red snapper or lobster.
After a massage followed by the compulsory siesta, you'll want a late afternoon swim to get you ready for the night's beginning. As the sun sets, you might want to try the famous Troncones margaritas. The flocks of pelicans that began your day now end it as they head south down the coast for their nightly resting place. You watch the sky slowly turn into the blues and reds of dusk and scan the horizon for the elusive "green flash" (nothing to do with the margaritas) just as the sun disappears into the far off waves.
Little by little the stars and planets take shape in the black sky. Orion and Venus twinkle on the water's surface and the moon rises as the fireflies play in the grass. A candlelit dinner with the sand beneath your feet and good conversation that always follows a happy day. As the evening ends, you walk down our country lane under the star-filled sky, so bright it lights your way home to La Puesta del Sol.
As you lie in your bed, the gentle night sounds of the tropical geckos and crickets chirp in harmony with the ocean waves promising another perfect day tomorrow.
